around 1699, the Dutch colonial government brought a type of coffee variant to Indonesia. Arabica coffee planting was first planted in the Mandailing Natal area of Pekantan Regency, North Sumatra. Furthermore, the coffee planting was carried out in several other areas including the highlands of Gayo or Central Aceh and also in the North Tapanuli area. Besides being available in limited quantities, this Mandheling coffee variant is very special because it has a strong taste, medium acidity, floral taste, and also has an after taste that cannot be found in other coffee variants.

Some history states that the Arabica coffee version of Mandheling coffee in the past was brought by the Dutch to Indonesia around 1699. Pakantan Regency was the region that first planted Arabica coffee on the island of Sumatra. At that time, the Arabica coffee variant was first planted in the Mandailing Natal area, Pakantan Regency, North Sumatra. Afterwards, it was developed in the North Tapanuli region, namely in the Lintong Nihuta region and the area around Lake Toba and the Gayo Plateau in Central Aceh. Arabica mandailing variants have been known to the world since around 1878. This type of coffee can grow well with heights reaching 1200 feet above sea level.

For now, the Mandheling Arabica variant can only be found in the Mandailing plains area. In fact, there is no single region in Indonesia or in the world that even planted this one coffee variant. This type of coffee is known to have a strong aroma and taste. The flavor or taste of the Mandheling coffee is fine acidity, full body, sweet, long lasting aroma after taste.
